‘94 Fender Twin Reverb
After fixing the reverb but not solving the crackle….
when i bought this amp the reverb tank squealed like a pig the moment you flipped it on and the sales person banged on the cabinet three times to get the crackle/crunchy feedback to go away. i made an offer and bought it, as-is, with the intention to make it a project. i tried salvaging the existing reverb tank by resoldering a bad connection and replacing a microphonic valve, but ended up having to swap out the whole tank for a new one to get the reverb to work. the crackle was more of a mystery until i took off all the pots to be able to slide out the PCB from the input jacks and found a loose strip of metal shielding that must’ve peeled off from one of the cabinet screws and was causing a short across the jacks. i took that out, put in new power tubes, re biased, and now the amp is playing clean! it’s probably not the best fender twin out there, but it feels great to get it working again.
